About me

Who is James Salazar? If you came to this website via a search engine looking for James Salazar the doctor, try again. If you came here looking for James Salazar the English professor, you’ve got the wrong man. If you came here looking for James Salazar the project manager well, that’s not me either. This James Salazar is an IT consultant.

I started this website many years ago after I retired from my post at the local BMW Car Club as club president, webmaster and newsletter editor. (If you do a search for “James Salazar” there is still a good chance you can find my writings from back then.) I had done it for so long and I was so used to writing and sharing my stories that I needed an outlet.

Now I am writing about my many interests like cars, flying, scuba diving and just about everything else that I am into.

I also do a lot of travel plus I spend a lot of time in Cancun and Paris so you can expect to read a lot about those two places.

If you’re a friend, look me up on Facebook (under “James Salazar”, of course). Actually, if you search for James Salazar under Facebook, you will find quite a few James Salazars. You may be better off just sending me an email.

James Salazar at work:
I have been in IT since way back when. I have done a mix of software development and UNIX/Linux systems administration and engineering. In the last few years, I have been doing quite a bit of work on the web: creating and optimizing websites and search engine optimization (SEO) work. I like this because it feeds my creative side.

James Salazar – past jobs:
I have not always been an IT Pro. In fact, I have some of my past jobs may surprise you:

James Salazar the doctor? Well, not quite but I did spend two summers working with a friend at the New Orleans SPCA. I have always loved animals so this was a perfect job for me back then. I got to help out in surgeries, taking X-Rays, giving shots, bathing animals, helping with examinations and traveling to rural parts on a Harley once a month. Despite the occasional dirty work, I loved this job.

James Salazar the roadie? This was my favorite job. I did not travel with bands but instead worked in Houston supporting bands that came to town. The job was very physical (and loud): we would unload and setup the sound system and at the end of the show we would tear it down and load unto the trailers. The day would start early and we would not finish until late that night (or early the next morning). In between the setup and tear down we would be fed, get to hang out with the band and watch the show. I mostly worked with ‘alternative bands’ like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Ramones, INXS, New Order, PIL, The Smiths and others – bands that I enjoyed then and now.

James Salazar the Teamster? The last job I had before IT was unloading trucks at UPS. At the time I was a top distance runner (5’ 8” and only weighed 120lbs) and few of the people working there thought I would make it more than a day. This was an intensely physical job even for people twice my size. But, I think I was great at my job and able to survive for so long because, despite my size, I was all muscle and I had great endurance, too (I was training for marathons at the time). You know, this is another job that I really enjoyed. Oh, I think I was one of the few people working there that was not a union man.

James Salazar the pilot:
I started flying when I was 13 years old and I am still going at it – I love it! If you ever want to experience flying in a small plane or want to feel what it is like to take the controls, give me a call.

James Salazar and cars:
I still like playing with cars but I will admit that I don’t get out to the track (road courses) as often. I am spending more time flying these days (it goes in phases). I do have a preference for German cars especially old German cars.

James Salazar and scuba:
With my dad a certified dive instructor, it was only natural that I would pick up scuba diving as a hobby. Since I am often in the Riviera Maya, this is where I tend to go diving.

James Salazar and travel:
I was an Army Brat and we moved around a lot. I have kind of settled in Houston tend to spend a lot of time away. When I travel, I do prefer to experience different cultures than what I am used to in the USA.

James Salazar and photography:
You can always count on me having a camera with me. But, I tend to prefer action photography (like at racing events). Even though I prefer taking action photos, my favorite photos are candid photos by the likes of Elliott Erwitt or Henri Cartier-Bresson.
