Aerial Tour of Houston-Galveston
Sunday was a great day to give an aerial tour of Houston to a colleague from Italy: not a cloud in the sky, excellent visibility, light winds and most importantly, it was very smooth.
We departed from West Houston Airport (IWS) on the west side of Houston and followed I-10 to downtown. Just east of downtown we started a gentle circle around downtown before continuing east over I-10. Near the San Jacinto Monument, we headed south over Kemah before turning towards the north end of Galveston.
Heading towards the north end of Galveston was probably my favorite part of the flight although I am sorry to say I was too busy enjoying watching all the ships below to take any photos.
We followed the coastline to Scholes Field (GLS) in Galveston. We made a quick landing and then we were back in the air looking down at the destruction hurricane Ike had left behind. We followed highway 6 all the way around the south and west of end Houston back to West Houston Airport.
Once back in the car and with my stomach growling, I seriously started thinking about jumping back in the airplane and flying off to Brenham for a burger. Too bad the airplane was already booked.
For all of those that I have told me you want to join me on a flight, you will have to step forward and remind me. The line is starting to get long so you better get in line before it starts getting too hot to comfortably fly.
I should mention that, with the exception of the Kemah photo, all photos were taken by my passenger.
