White Christmas for Houston?

Snow in Houston. Picture taken from my 24th floor balcony. December 10, 2008

BMWs covered by snow and this is not Bavaria but cars at Bavarian Machine Specialties in Houston. Photo was taken from my 24th floor balcony. December 10, 2008A couple of years ago we did get snow on Christmas eve in Houston but I doubt we’ll have a white Christmas this year. Still, it was nice to get some snow last night. (Somehow, it does help to get me in a Christmas mood.)

Snow in Houston is not typical and when we do get snow it is big news because we are not a city designed for low temperatures. For starters, a lot of our streets, bridges and overpasses have to be closed because of the ice that forms on them (some of our elevated off-ramps can turn into bobsled runs).

When I woke this morning, all of the snow had disappeared.

Election Day Sunrise

Photo taken of sunrise in Houston on election day

Today is election day in the USA. As I stared out my bedroom window wondering what this election would bring us, I noticed a local news helicopter hovering above and sharing my view of the colorful sunrise with the rest of Houston.
