Getting out of hurricane Gustav’s way

Continental flight 10 to Paris

I have been through enough natural disasters to want to stick around for a hurricane. With Gustav on the way, I headed for Paris. Fortunately, Houston was spared but Louisiana did take a hit.

Eiffel Tower in blue and with European Union starsI have made lots of trips to Paris so I did not do much sight seeing. I did do a lot of relaxing, eating and walking.

This trip was very different in that I met quite a few interesting people. The top photo, for example, was taken by a fellow passenger on the way to Paris. I enjoyed talking with her and the flight went by fast. At one point I had to excuse myself because I wanted to get a little bit of sleep before landing in Paris.

On the way back from Paris, our flight took a detour from the usual course and instead followed the East Coast and then flew over the Gulf Coast as we made our way to Houston.

I snapped this bottom photo that shows remnants of Gustav over Louisiana. You can see still see clear signs of the outer bands in the photo and in the Gulf you may be able to make out ships racing to the oil rigs.
